This is a very large section. The sound of equipment includes the sound of the instrument, effects pedals, the amplifier, the mic, the preamp, outboard analog and digital equipment, mixing software, consoles, plugins, etc.
For example, the sound of an electric guitar is affected by the pick, the strings, the pickups, the guitar body and neck, active guitar circuitry, guitar cables, effects pedals, guitar amp, power amp, speaker, cabinet, mics, mic placement, mic preamps, console, limiters/compressors, EQ, outboard equipment, reverb, plugins, etc.
We take a close look at each of these sections along the way. What do different limiters sound like? A Fairchild, LA2A, 1176, DBX160, Demeter, etc. What do different EQ systems sound like? API 550A, Pultec, UREI, Neve, SSL, Trident, GML, etc. We take an extensive look and listen to all software plugins, AD/DA converters, wordclocks, tape machines, and every other component commonly found in a recording studio or live sound system.
We’ll take an extensive listen to guitar pedals, bass pedals, etc. So instead of listening to someone explain the pedal or reading a magazine article about a pedal – we take the novel approach of actually letting you watch and listen to the pedal. Yes, that’s a lot of pedals – and a lot of samples!
